Type 53 (M53) Chinese Nagant Rifle - 7.62 x 54R - Blued/Walnut w/Bayonet
Description:
As the Cold War progressed into the 1950's, China partnered with the Soviets to produce the 7.62x54R-chambered M53 carbine, a copy of the Russian Mosin-Nagant M44 carbine. Supplied by the Soviets with advisers, original tooling and materials, production began at Jianshe Arsenal in 1953 and lasted until approximately 1961. While it is doubtful the M53 saw action during the Korean War, it was used extensively by the North Vietnamese and many other Communist-influenced forces until the SKS and AK-47 became widely available. This example was made in 1954 by Jianshe. Condition is overall good, with bright bore and crisp rifling. There is slight surface discoloration on the magazine side plates, and an uneven patina on blued surfaces, but no heavy rust present. Stock is in good condition, with no cracks and matching handguard. Folding spike bayonet deploys smoothly. Barrel length: 20.5". OAL: 40". Weight: 8.8 lbs.
