WW2 Vintage 1944 Finnish Military Sako Model 1939 (M39) Mosin Nagant Rifle w/ Sling in 7.62x54R
** Spectacular All-Matching & Original Sako
Description: The Finnish M39 is one of the most sought-after Mosin Nagant rifles ever made. It has long been considered by soldiers, shooters, and collectors as the ultimate Mosin Nagant battle rifle, refined to perfection by the Finns. In 1938 the Finnish Army, the Finnish Civil Guard, and the Finnish Dept. of Defense all participated in an extensive redesign of the of the Mosin Nagant models currently in service. Finnish engineers combined the ideas of all three branches to create the Model 1939, eliminating all of the problems and weak points of the previous designs that were exposed in combat. The rifle was formally adopted in 1939 as the "Jalkavakikivaari Model 1939", or Finnish M39, and were manufactured by Sako, VKT, and Tikkakoski (Tikka). Very few were manufactured in time for the Winter War from 1939 to 1940, but a large number of these rifles saw combat in the Continuation War from 1941 to 1944. The M39 remained in production until September of 1944 when the Finns surrendered to the Russians. In combat, the M39 proved to be an excellent weapon, extremely durable, reliable, and deadly accurate. The M39 was such a success that it remained in Finnish Military service to at least some degree into the 1960's when they were used as training rifles. This particular example is one of the best Finnish M39's that we have seen in a very long time. This is a WW2 production (1944 dated) Finnish Military M39 Mosin Nagant made by Sako that is all-matching and 100% original, having never been reworked as far as we can tell. As you see it now is exactly how it left the factory in 1944 with the exception of the tiny import stamp on the right side of the barrel near the muzzle. The original Sako factory blue finish is still very attractive but shows thinning, wear, and handling marks consistent with a combat-used rifle, but no major damage or eyesores. The finish has a very nice and even patina to it throughout the rifle on all of the metal parts, including the stock hardware. All of the numbered parts are stamped and matching, and all of the factory markings are crisp and clear. The bolt has the original Russian serial number lined out, with the Sako-applied serial number stamped on the bolt handle knob itself (Sako mixed in captured Russian Mosin parts with their newly made parts). As you can see from the pictures, Sako built this M39 on an early Imperial Russian hex receiver with the Imperial Russian Eagle ground-off. The barrel itself was made new in 1944 by Sako and is stamped with the "gear wheel" Sako logo, "1944", the "S.A." property mark, and a internal factory proof. The bore in this rifle is excellent overall, bright and clean throughout with sharp, well-defined rifling. There are no bulges, erosion, or major imperfections visible whatsoever, only some extremely light frosting in the grooves if look really closely. The bore in this Sako is much better than any we have seen in years, and we have no doubt it will shoot just as accurately today as it did when it left the factory. The original WW2-production rounded finger-joint stock set on this rifle is really exceptional. As you can see, the wood has an amazing amount of beautiful figure and contrasting grain in it for a military stock. Both the stock and handguard are in excellent condition overall and match each other perfectly, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. The stock set shows only minor dings, dents, and handling marks that would expect to see on an issued rifle that saw combat but was well-cared for. The original factory-applied Sako "Gear Wheel" logo is crisp and clean on the right side of the butt, as-is the factory inspection proof to the left of the Sako logo. The rounded finger joint (ID's this stock as WW2 production) of this stock is perfectly tight, and all of the barrel bands, sling mounting points, and buttplate are intact, original, tight to the stock, and in great shape. The original cleaning rod is still in place on this M39 and an original Finnish Military leather sling is still on the rifle. The sling is stamped with the Finnish property mark "SA" (pictured) and the maker's mark "SkY". All of the controls on this Sako are in perfect working order including the over-buit and precise adjustable iron sights, and the action is smooth and turns into battery perfectly. This Sako M39 is in perfect mechanical condition, like it left the factory last week rather than 75 years ago. If you have been looking for one of these sought-after Finnish M39 Mosins for your military/WW2 weapons collection, here is your chance to get an amazing original example from the famous Sako firm that would be neary impossible to upgrade from.
