The Mossberg Model 51M(a) is one of the more interesting and attractive semi-automatic .22 rifles produced by O.F. Mossberg & Sons during the golden age of American rimfire production. It combined excellent target accuracy with distinctive European styling, making it popular with both target shooters and small-game hunters.
History
The original Model 51M was introduced in 1939 and remained in production until 1942. The "M" designated its Mannlicher-style full-length stock, which gave the rifle a distinctive Continental appearance. In 1944, Mossberg introduced the improved 51M(a), which remained in production into 1945 before being superseded by the 51M(b).
Unlike many inexpensive .22 rifles of the period, the 51M series was built as a premium sporting rifle.

In 99%  original condition, it is a highly desirable collector's rifle and one of the more attractive rimfires Mossberg ever produced. One image shows the trigger with a piece of masking tape around it. The former owner had marked his collection rifles. It escaped us when taking images.  We will remove before shipping.
The rifle has only a few storage marks otherwise near unused. A fine vintage 1940s Mossberg rifle which should make a fine collectors item.
