32693-EXCEPTIONAL HACKER MARTIN VIRGINIA CURLEY MAPLE SILVER MOUNTED KENTUCKY FLINTLOCK LONGRIFLE. 62” o/a with early 46 ½” octagon rifled .36 cal. barrel signed with maker initials “I E” in late 1700’s-early 1800’s lettering. Possibly one of the Ernst family of Pennsylvania makers. Brass patchbox and mounts with 10 silver inlays including 8 moon inlays on forend. Signed on underside of patchbox lid “RESTOCKED BY HACKER MARTIN 1966”. Original circa 1800 rifle restocked by Martin at his mill in Appomattox, Virginia for Mr. V. V. Horney of Linden, Virginia who commissioned the work in 1965. Set triggers made by Hacker with the lock made by Russ Hamm, barrel and mounts except Hacker made toe plate original. Hacker was known for his stock work using his own maple which he sawed and aged at his mill in Appomattox. Excellent overall with good bore and in working order. With copy of testimonial document from the late V. V. Horney. One of Hacker Martin’s nicest rifles. $3500.
