VERY EARLY THOMPSON-CENTER FLINTLOCK HAWKEN RIFLE IN VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION .45 CALIBER, #2XXX
Description: VERY EARLY THOMPSON-CENTER FLINTLOCK HAWKEN RIFLE IN VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION .45 CALIBER, #2XXX. These fine American made rifles were discontinued about a dozen years ago and are becoming hard to find. They feature 28" octagon barrels, brass furniture and patch boxes, engraved case colored locks, double set triggers and an adjustable rear barrel sight. They are also factory drilled and tapped on the upper tang for peep sights. Nice straight grain walnut stock, This example with low serial number 2xxx was probably made in the first couple of years of production which began in 1970 and appears mainly unused and comes with the early style brown Thompson-Center Hawken box numbered to this rifle. Hardly any handling marks, excellent inside and out, just some flint scratch marks on the frizzen, comes with cleaning jag and extra flint in the patch box. Loaded with a patched round ball, these make great target and small game rifles. When loaded with a grease groove bullet and a heavy powder charge it is suitable for most large game and is the equivalent of the old black powder .45-90 cartridge. With percussion caps about impossible to find now, it's nice to be able to shoot a flinter!
