CHARLES NEWTON DOUBLE SQUARE BRIDGE RIFLE - 256 NEWTON CALIBER
Description: Charles Newton “Double Square Bridge” Rifle - .256 Newton calibre, SN 18xx This presents a rare opportunity to acquire a fine example of Charles Newton’s highly innovative 1914 vintage rifles, built on a Newton designed double square bridge action and chambered for the unique .256 Newton cartridge, also of his creation. Charles Newton was internationally known as “The Father Of High Velocity”. .256 Newton cartridge cases remain in current production and are available from RCC (Robertson Cartridge Company. Additionally, 256 Newton cartridge cases may be produced by re-sizing 270 or 30-06 cartridge brass. The subject rifle is in remarkably excellent condition, given the fact that it was designed and built over 100 years age. Seller conservatively estimates the condition of both metal and stock work to be approximately ninety-five percent (95%) condition, which appears all original. The accompanying photos display blue wear around the front sight band and a bit of blue wear on the front under side of the trigger guard. The stock checkering is sharp and virtually flawless; stock finish is ninety-five percent (95%). The only after-market feature on the rifle appears to be the added white line recoil pad, which replaced the original metal butt-plate and provides a 14 1/4" length of pull.. The barrel segmented rifling (also of Newton’s design) remains sharp and outstanding. This fine Charles Newton 256 Newton Caliber rifle comes with a new, unused set of Redding loading dies, a $250 value addition, obtained from Midway US. A fine 100 plus year old rifle, chambered for the outstanding performance high velocity cartridge .256 Newton!
