Newton Model 1916 .30 Newton Buffalo NY Manufactured.
Description: Newton Arms Co. Buffalo NY .30 Newton Caliber. This rifle is in good shape with only minor changes made: Buttpad, Recoil lugs, and Barrel band sling swivel. The .30 newton was designed between 1910 (Richard F Simmons) and 1913 (Frank C Barnes) for Fred Adolph. The cartridge was originally named the .30 Adolph Express and is close in performance to the .300 Holland & Holland except the .30 Newton is nearly the same length as the .30-06. Vernor Gipson was able to load this with 180 grain bullets and 48 grains of 4064 and get 2360 f.s.and Neidner loaded it with a Western Match 180 grain bullet, 60-65 grains of 4064 and got results 2980-3196 f.s. the brass can be made from .375 Ruger or 8X68S brass, though the interwebs say that Jamison and Robertson made runs of it, Graf shows it in stock at 82.00 for 20. The action is clean with neither bridge having been drilled for either a top mount or a side mount peep, strong blue, the take down feature works well, double set trigger is well adjusted. Details of the 1916 rifles can be found in Lawrence Wales wonderful book and guide to the Newton. These are take down rifles that take down via lowering the floorplate which is hinged and simply unscrewing the main bolt by using the floorplate as a handle, then lifting the barreled action out of the stock. The barrel is 24" with good blue and a clean bore, barrel band Newton rear sight, 1 standing, 1 folded, barrel band factory front sight, non original barrel band sling swivel. The stock is original with the exception of an added pad and recoil lugs, the chequering and finish are in really good condition, no cracks behind the tang. 13 1/4" length of pull. 7lbs 7oz 027821 AHSSDP $2650.00 Willoughby McCabe & Company.
