Newton Model 1916 rifle caliber 256 Newton Lyman 48 Long Tang accurate
Description:
This rifle is a Model 1916 Newton in caliber 256 Newton. The receiver, bolt, floor plate, grip cap and trigger guard are number 3140. The butt plate is number 3887 and is slightly high at the top of the stock. The stock and number under the grip cap on the wood is 988. This rifle was probably assembled by the Receiver sometime in 1918. The rifle has the correct Long Tang Lyman 48 sight on the receiver numbered to 150 yards. The wood is VG+. The barrel and receiver retain about 95% blue. The rear sight is not original. The front sight may not be original although Newton used a variety of front sights on his rifles. The bore in the 24 inch barrel is very good+. The previous owner stated that the rifle was VERY accurate. The rifle has some of the standard features of a Newton rifle such as the takedown feature by unscrewing the floor plate to breakdown the rifle into the stock and barreled action and double set trigger. The magazine has been formed with fiberglass and is very well done. There is a repaired hairline crack just in front of the magazine. See pictures. This is a Curio & Relics item.
