About Us: I have been collecting firearms for over 40 years. My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles
Newton Model 1916 rifle caliber .30 Newton Cross bolts, pad, eyes for sling
Description: Although this is not an all original Model 1916 Newton rifle, this rifle has been modified to be used. Most of the mechanism is original and to make it more usable 2 cross bolts have been neatly added before and after the magazine to reinforce the stock which has NO cracks in it. A DuPont Neoprene Grand-Lux Olympic Model recoil pad has also been added. It is a mixed serial numbered rifle. The receiver, bolt, floor plate, and trigger guard are numbered 2670. The stock is numbered 2833 and grip cap 3887. These mixed number rifles were most probably assembled by the Receiver after Newton left the factory and sold by them or the Newton Rifle Corporation sometime in 1918. The wood is very good with minimal handling marks. The checkering is also very good and crisp. An eye for a sling has been added to the stock and a screw on eye added to the barrel. The remaining blue is as follows: receiver 98%, barrel 90%, trigger guard and floor plate 85-90% and the grip cap 95%. The takedown feature is adjusted to a nice tight fit. The double set trigger has a crisp let off. The rifle has the original rear sight and an after market gold bead front. The rifle weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz. The bore is bright. I fired this rifle with 190 grain Hornady bullets over 61 grains of H4350 and with reloads using Nosler 180 grain Ballistic Tips over 67 grains of H4831 and all 6 shots were slightly over 1 inch groups at 50 yards with “old eyes and open sights”. The recoil was not unpleasant. The shots were all low and if I keep the rifle I would put a lower front sight on it. The rifle comes with the leather sling shown. This is a much better than average Newton rifle and set up to shoot. If you wanted to have a 30 Newton to hunt or shoot, this is the one. The rifle can be shipped as a Curio & Relic. Packing, shipping and insurance is $50.
