About Us: I have been collecting firearms for over 40 years. My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles
Newton Rifle Model 1916 30 Newton Nice condition
Description: This is a Newton Model 1916 rifle in caliber 30 Newton. The receiver, bolt handle, floor plate, and trigger guard are numbered 2670. The stock is numbered 2833 and grip cap 3887. These mixed numbered rifles were most probably assembled by the Receiver sometime in 1918 after Newton left the factory and sold by the Receiver, the Newton Rifle Corporation or the Kirtland Hardware store. The wood is in very good condition with minimal handling marks and the checkering is in very good condtion and crisp. The receiver has 98% blue remaining, the 24 inch barrel 90%, the trigger guard and floor plate 85-90% and the grip cap 95%.The takedown feature is adjusted to a nice tight fit. The double set trigger has a crisp let off. The rifle has an original rear sight and a fine gold bead front sight. The bore is bright. The rifle weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz. The rear bottom of the stock has a screw inserted where a screw eye once was. The butt plate has been replaced with a Silvers red recoil pad in the style that Newton used on some rifles that left the factory. The rifle has had 2 cross bolts neatly installed in the stock. The stock has no cracks. It is not uncommon for a Newton rifle, especially in the larger calibers to have cracked stocks. Adding the cross bolts safeguards that happening and makes this rifle much more reliable to shoot. This rifle has been fired with handloads with 190 grain Hornady bullets over 61 grains of H4350 and 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips over 67 grains of H4831 and grouped slightly over 1 inch at 50 yards. This is a much better than average condition Newton 1916 and very shootable. It would be avisable not to shoot most 30 Newton rifles except with light loads and certainly check for cracks in the stock before shooting one of these rifles. Packing, shipping and insurance $50.00.
