Description: #77428, Niedner Rifle Corp. Dowagiac, Mich.: A Classic 7 x57 Mauser Carbine on a Commercial Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf Intermediate Action, It has trappings of both the Mauser Sporter Type B and the Type M, The Mauser was made 1913, I strongly believe that Niedner's shop graced it in 1933, 20" round tapered barrel that I am certain is a Niedner barrel, Lyman 57 SME receiver peep sight, Barrel mounted forward sling swivel, Ramp front sight with a sight protector, Correct & original butterknife bolt handle, Single trigger, Hinged floorplate with an outside lever release, Complete matted receiver ring, The receiver ring and bridge were not drilled for a scope, Traditional half-stock style stock, Steel grip cap, Niedner installed Horn forend tip, Cheekpiece, Checkered grip and forend, Mauser #77428 was built in 1913 and every serial number matches everywhere; The gun retains the original Mauser stock, Then I'll bet good money that Tom Shelhamer checkered the forend panel in a true Type B style, I have a strong feeling that the Lyman peep was there from day one, 13 15/16" LOP over the original top-opening trapdoor buttplate with 2 mortise's for cleaning gear, Great Carbine weight at 6 lbs. 13 oz., The barrel blue remains at 95%, The receiver blue remains at 94%, The trigger guard & floorplate blue remains at 70%, The stock remains at 94%, The checkering remains at 98%, The bore is excellent from throat to muzzle, The piece is very accurate at 50 yards. This is one neat Pre-WWI Mauser with all the correct features of that era and then it passed thru the excellent shop at Niedner Rifle Corp. Adolph Otto Niedner was born in Philadelphia in 1864. From a young age Niedner was a rifleman and constantly sought out accuracy. At the turn of the century he was one of the best offhand shots in the U.S. The Niedner Rifle Corp. started life in Dowagiac in 1920 with a new building and a 200-yard range. In 1924 Niedner hired Thomas Shelhamer as their stockmaker and he remained there until just after WWII. After Niedner Corp. closed Shelhamer went on his own and he was recognized as one of the best stockmakers in the U.S. He passed away May 6, 1971. Townsend Whelen told people that asked, go to Niedner's if you want a new barrel. Rifle Caliber: 7x57mm Mauser Price: $5,500.00 Contact Seller |
