This Norinco 156S-1, a seldom-seen variant of the classic Chinese Type 56S-1, offers collectors and AK enthusiasts a unique piece of Cold War-era small arms history. Imported by Sile of NY during the 1989 ban, this rifle features the unmistakable rugged reliability of Norinco manufacturing. With its crude “1” prefix—when this rifle was in transit when the ban took effect—this rifle was altered to meet new requirements (like ground off bayonet lug and altered flash hider - which has been changed back to original config) then stamped with the "1". It stands out among other pre-ban AKs as an anomaly sure to spark conversation at the range or among collectors.
Sporting a folding steel stock, chrome-lined bore, and threaded barrel with a compensator, it’s ready for the range or the wall. And without the bayonet lug, it complied with early import regulations (at one time) while maintaining authentic AK aesthetics.
