1988-1989 Vintage Pre-Ban Polytech (Oval 386) AKS-762 Double-Folder AK in 7.62x39
** Minty 100% Original Spiker Underfolder ** SOLD
Description: This is a minty and spectacular example of an all-original pre-ban Polytech Model AKS-762 AK "double-folder" with a factory underfolding stock and folding spike bayonet. This Polytech appears to be unfired and is in like-new condition. These pre-ban Polytech AK's are considered by shooters and collectors alike as one of the finest AK's ever made for the commercial market in the United States from any country. These Chinese Polytechs were manufactured from 1985 until the U.S. importation ban of 1989. They were made in two different Poytech-owned factories in China denoted by either a "Triangle 416" or an "Oval 386". The vast majority of 1985 to mid-1987 production guns were imported by Sile in New York, with Keng's in Atlanta, Ga. taking over the importing between mid-1987 until the U.S. importation ban of 1989. The Polytech AKS-762 was imported in several configurations during the production run, with all of them displaying a beautiful commercial-quality gloss blue finish and excellent fit and finish. Polytech quickly earned a reputation for building a top-quality AK that was not only beauitful to look at, but was supremely reliable and more accurate than many of their competitors. This pristine example is a Keng's import, most likely made in late 1988 at the "Oval 386" factory. It features some upgrades that the early production guns did not have, such as the floding spike bayonet, a spring-loaded firing pin, and a larger checkered pistol grip. The serial number of "PF-07365" tells us that it is a factory underfolder with "PF" an abbreviation for "Polytech Folding". The fixed stock guns would be serialed with a "PW" for "Polytech Wood", and the side-folding guns serialed with a "PS" for "Polytech Side-Folder". The original factory gloss blue finish on this AKS-762 is in like-new condition, still bright and clean rating 99%. To find anything worth taking 1% off of the rating takes an extremely close inspection for some tiny little handling marks. There is no visible wear to speak of on this gun inside or out. It is obvious that this AKS-762 has been kept in storage since it was new, and it appears to be unfired since leaving China. The chrome-lined bore is mirror-bright and perfect, with rifling that still shows extremely sharp lands and grooves throughout the 16.5" barrel with a threaded muzzle. There are zero visible imperfections of any kind in the bore. All of the numbered parts of this Polytech are 100% original and matching, including the bolt carrier, bolt head, gas tube, and receiver/trunnion. The bolt face is pristine and shows no evidence of having been fired, and the chrome plated gas piston is equally as pristine and like-new. All of the internal parts in this Polytech are just as clean and like-new as the exterior. The internal receiver rails that the bolt rides on still have 95% of their factory blue finish on them, typically completely worn off after just one full magazine is fired thru it. There is zero visible mechanical wear to the moving parts in this AK, and just a touch of superficial finish wear to the plum finish on the hammer, likely a result of being test fired at the factory and from the action being worked by hand once State-side. The original factory underfolder stock is in excellent condition, and is in 100% perfect working order. The stock locks into the folded or extended position nice and tight, and the hinges on the butt are like-new, stiff and tight throughout the entire range of motion. The original checkered wood pistol grip and handguards on this AKS-762 are a perfect match to each other and in like-new condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear. The upper and lower handguard are perfectly fit to this gun and tight with no wiggle, and the original pistol grip is solid and perfectly tight to the receiver as well. The checkering on the pistol grip is clean, crisp, and free from any oil soiling. The 9" inch folding spike bayonet on this Polytech is really a desirable and sought-after feature. The spike bayonet is in like-new condition and locks perfectly tight in the folded or extended position. Only a small percentage of these guns came into the U.S. as factory double-folders. This AKS-762 has a slick and smooth action in it, and the bolt rotates into battery perfectly with no slop when it is allowed to slam forward. All of the controls on this AK are in 100% perfect working order and the trigger is exceptionally good for an AK, breaking with a very light pull and just a little travel. There is no doubt that this Polytech would function today just as well as it did when it left the factory in 1988-89. It comes complete with one original and proper Chinese spineless 30-round blued steel magazine in like-new condition. If you have been looking for a top-of-the-line and investment quality pre-ban AK for your collection, this Polytech AKS-762 double-folder would be a perfect choice. This Polytech would be all but impossible to upgrade, and would certainly be the centerpiece to just about any AK collection.
