Purdey, London. Rare 6-bore big game rifle, made in 1837.
Description: Purdey, London. Extremely rare 6-bore dangerous game rifle, #2991, made in 1837. Weight: LOP: 26 ½” re-browned barrel with evenly frosted bore devoid of any deep pitting. Engraved barrel address has been refreshed. Breech with light pitting. Single standing rear sight with replaced front sight. Replaced heavy duty loading rod. Fully functioning lock with replacement hammer appears to have had the engraving refreshed. Single set-trigger. Engraving on the false breech worn and moderately corroded without deep pitting (could easily be refreshed). All the mounts are worn and lightly pitted with much of the engraving refreshed. The patchbox, possibly a replacement from another rifle, has been re-engraved and color hardened. Around 20 or 30 years ago this rifle had a rhinoceros-horn stock which has since been replaced with wood and an ebonized finish applied. Overall, a very rare and interesting rifle (if only it could talk) by one of the greatest gun maker’s ever to draw breath. Condition is what it is. Antique: Yes Price: $9,850.00 Contact Seller |
