REMINGTON HEPBURN NO.3 SPORTING RIFLE , CALIBER 40-50 ~ ANTIQUE
Description: Remington Hepburn No.3 Sporting Rifle . SER# 3381, cal. 40-50. 28" Octagon Barrel. Under the barrel is marked 40.1 7/8. I had my gunsmith cast the chamber and bore. The chamber is a straight taper case (not a bottle neck) the bore micks .407 and the twist is 1 in 21 inches. Very strong bright bore with strong rifling. Metal shows original fading blue. Action is tight and crisp and functions perfectly. Rear semi-buckhorn and silver blade front sights.. Very nice wood with no mars, chips , nicks or scratches. ANTIQUE RIFLE - NO FFL LIC REQUIRED . Designed by Lewis Hepburn, Remington’s mechanical department superintendent when the rifle was patented in 1879. Hepburn was also a member of the Creedmoor International Shooting Team. The design was sold and marketed by Remington from about 1880 to around 1907. The single-shot rifle uses a side-mounted thumb lever to operate the falling-block breech. A strong action, the company, then known as E. Remington & Sons. The Hepburn is arguably among the rarest of the mainstream American single shots.
