Remington Model 720 Military U.S. Navy Trophy Rifle 30-06 **ANIB MFG. 1942 Ultra Rare**
Description:
For your consideration, an ultra rare Remington Model 720 U.S. Navy Trophy Rifle chambered in 30-06. The model 720 was Remington's last sporting rifle design based on the 1917 Enfield action and was produced from 1941-1944 with only 2500 examples produced. In 1942, the Department of the Navy purchased approximately 1000 of these rifles and they remained in U.S. Navy storage until 1963, at which time they were slated for destruction. To save them it was decided to award them as shooting trophys starting in 1964. The winners of the Atlantic and Pacific Fleet, All Navy, Inter-Service, and National Matches would receive a 720 with their name and score engraved on the floor plate. The program was revised in the the 1980's to conserve the supply of Remington 720's with only the Navy high shooter at the Inter-Service and National Matches receiving a 720. The last of the Remington 720's were presented in 1999. This rifle is in absolutely stunning condition, and still has its original box numbered to the gun. The floor plate shows that it was awarded in 1998, making it one of the last in Navy inventory. Its stock is also in excellent condition with sharp checkering, and only a few very minor handling marks. The figure in the wood is outstanding(most were straight grained walnut) and the Frank J. Atwood inspector's mark is crisp and clean. These rifles were never sold through DCM or CMP, and very rarely hit the open market. The Remington 720 Military is considered the Holy Grail by Remington sporting rifle collectors, don't miss your chance to own this rare piece of history.
