Remington ~ 241 "Speedmaster" ~ .22 Long Rifle

The Remington 241 Speedmaster rifle is an interesting point in American .22 rifle history. The rifle came about in 1935 as an improved version of the Model 24, which itself was a derived design of John Browning's SA-22 made by the Browning company. The 241 was given a longer barrel, slightly larger wood furniture, and the receiver and internals were built up to accommodate for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, as opposed to the .22 Short and Long versions of its older brother. The rifles were also built with a takedown design for easy storage and transport. These semi-automatic rifles were popular mail-order rifles and could be found often in the shooting galleries of the mid-1900s, as well as marksmanship training rifles in the military. The Remington 241 holds 10 rounds of .22 Long Rifle in its tubular magazine, which is loaded from a port in the stock. This rifle is estimated to be a 1947-made rifle and includes a vintage Lymon 438 Field scope. The rifle also has a set of standard open sights with an elevator-adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight. The walnut furniture is gloss-finished and smooth, with no checkering. The blued finish on this rifle is in very good condition all along the barrel and on the receiver. The inside of the barrel is flawless, with no rust or pitting and very good condition of the rifling and chamber. The takedown system operates smoothly and easily. The scope is cloudy and has a very close eye relief window and shows some wear on the body (likely where one of the adjustment turrets was placed) but does complete the era-correct look.
