Remington Model 700 ADL .308 Winchester Matte Blue 24” with 3-9x40mm Scope
Description: The Remington Model 700 is one of the most famous, and most popular bolt action rifles ever made, so much so that it is still in production 60 years after its introduction! The Model 700 rifle has been used all over the world by hunters, military snipers, police, and match target shooters. Present company is the 700 ADL. According to the barrel date code, the rifle left the Remington factory in 2017. The stock is a utilitarian but very durable synthetic stock similar to that which is used on the 700 SPS model. It is fitted with a solid rubber butt pad. The 700 ADL uses the X-Mark Pro trigger which can be adjusted for pull weight. Magazine capacity is 4 rounds plus one in the chamber. The rifle was equipped with the currently equipped scope at the factory, hence the lack of manufacturer’s markings. For all intents and purposes, it is a “Remington” scope. The rifle exhibits little in the way of wear. The bore is in excellent condition with possibly minor residue present. The action itself operates smoothly and the follower is very clean. Combined with the classic .308 the ADL would make an excellent long-range hunting rifle. There is no box. The .308 Winchester was originally introduced in 1952 and was developed from the U.S. military’s experimental T65 series of cartridges intended to replace the venerable .30-06 Springfield. It is interesting to note, that at the time of its introduction, NATO forces had not yet adopted the T65E5 iteration as the 7.62x51mm NATO. This would not yet occur until two years later in 1954. That Winchester saw the marketing potential of the .308 is no surprise. The .308 Winchester, at the cost of being slightly longer than the .300 Savage, offers performance levels close to the .30-06 in a much shorter package. Whereas the .30-06 has an over all length (OAL) of 3.34 inches, the .308 only has an OAL of 2.80 inches. In modern gun design, these two cartridges and their lengths define whether a rifle has a long action or a short action (rifles chambered for the .223 Remington and other small cartridges are considered to have a “micro” action). The .308 Winchester is suitable for CPX2 and CPX3 game, such as deer and elk, although it has been used successfully on the occasional caribou or grizzly bear. Outside of hunting, the .308 has been used for target shooting and other competitions. It is considered the most popular short-action cartridge worldwide.
