Remington Model 700 Sendero Special SF-II with Athlon Helos BTR 8-34x56mm FFP MOA
Description: The Remington Model 700 is one of the most famous, and most popular bolt action rifles ever made, so much so that it has remained in production for over 50 years after its introduction! The Model 700 rifle has been used all over the world by hunters, military snipers, police, and match target shooters. The Model 700 Sendero Special SF-II was built for long-range shooting, specifically varmint hunting, though it can easily double as a long-range match rifle. It has a 26” long, fluted heavy barrel which improves the rifle’s accuracy over conventional barrels. This type of barrel is popular for target rifles and varmint rifles. The thicker steel ensures reduced flexing as the bullet travels down the barrel, resulting in much greater accuracy than the thin sporter barrels can provide. The 700 Sendero Special SF-II uses the X-Mark Pro trigger which can be adjusted for pull weight. This example is pre-owned but not been used a great deal. It exhibits little to no wear, with the exception being a few marks on the left side of the barrel, and a little bit of finish wear on the body of the scope. The bore looks like it left the factory yesterday. There is no box. As with most magnum-chambered Remington 700s, magazine capacity is 3 rounds. This Sendero Special is chambered for the classic .300 Win Mag which was originally introduced in 1963. It was a development of the .338 Win Mag which arrived on the scene first in 1958. However, the .300 Win Mag is not simply a necked down .338, as it has a slightly longer body and shorter neck. The reason for this is that Norma had already necked down the .338 Win Mag to .308-caliber as the .308 Norma Magnum in 1960, preventing Winchester from taking the simple neck-it-down process that most manufactures use when making variations of their previous cartridge designs. In the end, the .300 Win Mag became the more popular cartridge and has been used all over the world for hunting. It has even been used in some military applications, mainly by snipers. Barrel twist is the popular 1:10 inches, which is suitable for heavy 220gr bullets. Mounted to the rifle is a nice Athlon Helos BTR scope, with magnification ranging from 8x to 34x. It uses a first focal plane setup allowing for consistent reticle values regardless of the level of magnification being used. The reticule is set for Minute-of-Angle (MOA). It uses a 30mm tube diameter to provide better light than the typical scope, most of which use a 1” diameter tube. The tube of the scope has some wear indicative of moving the scope between the rings without sufficient loosening of the screws first. Otherwise, the scope is in superb shape. The eyepiece and front lens are in superb shape with no scratches, and together provide an excellent view. Overall, this is a good multi-purpose rifle for the price. Please note that the weight of the rifle (11.5 lbs.) means that shipping will most likely go over the minimum $50, especially if the rifle is being shipped out west.
