REMINGTON 742 Woodmaster .30-06 SPRG
Description: Guns Listing ID: 598084 Remington 742 Woodsmaster – 30-06 – 22" Barrel – With 3-12 Scope – 4 Magazines Remington’s 742 Woodsmaster was a tremendous success for Remington. In the 20 years that the 742 was manufactured (1960-1980), over 1.4 million rifles were sold. There was, and still is, a lot to like about the 742. It is fast-firing, soft recoiling and it came in a variety of calibers. For many folks, it’s the perfect deer rifle. One note on the 742 . . . don’t take it out, get it wet and dirty and throw it in the gun safe until next season. Keep your rifle clean and it will take about as many game animals as you want. The 742 that we have on consignment is chambered in 30-06 Springfield and has a 22 inch barrel. Based on the CR barrel code on this rifle, it was manufactured in April, 1968. Candidly, we thought that the rifle was a bit newer than that but the “R" in the date code is specific to 1968. Serial number on the rifle is 353499. One note on the serial number . . . we would have expected to see a single letter prefix on the serial number for 1968 production. That is not the case with our rifle. The 742 rifles came with front and rear sights. Ours are still attached to the rifle, including the brass bead front sight. The rifle is fed from a four round detachable magazine. The magazine release is just behind the magazine. The wood is a checkered, pistol grip stock. A black cap is on the bottom side of the pistol grip. A black, Remington buttpad sits at the end of the stock. The wood rates as Very Good. The buttstock shows some signs of use but still rates as Very Good. The buttpad is Very Good and has no damage. The barrel finish is Good – Very Good. There may be some thin areas but no concerns. The receiver finish is Very Good. The rifle has a good bore, a bright barrel and goo rifling. The trigger is firm but consistent. A Cabela’s 3-12x40 scope is mounted on the rifle with Weaver rings. This is obviously not a high end scope but the glass is clear and the reticle is shart. The magnification adjustment works properly. The exterior, cosmetic appearance of the scope is very nice. We think that this is a very nice rifle with a scope already mounted and ready to go. It sure looks like it has a lot of life left in it. If 30-06 is your desired caliber and you’d like a semi-auto instead of a bolt, this may be the one for you! Purchase includes the rifle, scope, 4 total magazines and a zippered, padded soft case. This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this rifle. We have performed our function checks and find no issues. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are completely comfortable with the condition of the rifle.
