SCARCE Antique U.S. REMINGTON “Split Breech” .50 RF TYPE 2 MILITARY Carbine Post-CIVIL WAR Subcontracted Carbine w/CARTOUCHE
Description: SCARCE Antique U.S. REMINGTON “Split Breech” .50 RF TYPE 2 MILITARY Carbine Post-CIVIL WAR Subcontracted Carbine w/CARTOUCHE Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique U.S. Remington / Savage Arms Split Breech Type II Rifle, made in 1865 and 1866 in Middletown, Connecticut. This Remington single shot breechloading carbine is more commonly known as the “Split Breech” Remington Carbine. There were several types, with this being Type II, subcontracted by Remington to the Savage Revolving Arms Company of Middletown, Connecticut. These were post-Civil War guns and have quite the interesting history. These guns were the predecessors to the more familiar Rolling Block rifles and carbines. This example has a more robust action, barrel, and stock than other rolling blocks and is chambered in .50 caliber rimfire. This Type II variant was contracted for in 1864 for 15,000 units, but the first delivery of 1,000 carbines was not made until September of 1865, five months after the end of the Civil War. The remaining guns in the contract were delivered by May of 1866. These guns are very rare and are highly sought after in the collecting community. The overall condition is good. Original dark brown patina. The action is strong. Bright bore with strong rifling. This example sports a solid stock with average wear, dents, and dings. Markings are discernable. A faint stock cartouche and hand marked number is on the underside of the buttstock. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 20 inches. Caliber: .50 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. $1650 #259726 SOLD Antique: Yes |
