Synopsis:
Beautiful Remington Armory Mosin-Nagant pattern rifle dated 1917, undelivered Russian Empire contract, later purchased by the U.S. Government, complete with an original bayonet and sling.
Description:
Remington Armory Mosin-Nagant M1891 pattern rifle from 1917 made to fulfill a Russian Empire contract that was ordered during World War I, when Russia could not keep up with the military demand for rifles. They ordered over a million M1891 Mosin-Nagants from Remington Armory with matching bayonets. Although Remington produced just under 850,000 guns between 1915 and 1917, only a little more than 130,000 were delivered by January of that year. After the Russian Empire was overthrown a month later, the undelivered rifles were purchased by the U.S. government. This rifle has a drift adjustable blade front sight and tangent rear sight - the base graded 4-12, the vertical component graded 13-32. It is dated 1917 and has the proper Russian eagle seal on the chamber and a larger encircled eagle seal on the right side of the butt stock. The gun is entirely matching including the floorplate, bolt, firing pin assembly, and butt plate. Complete with an original bayonet numbered "519494", cleaning rod and correct leather sling.
Condition:
98% original blue with sharp edge wear and handling marks consistent with a rifle that changed hands and was placed into storage on multiple occasions for over one hundred years. In the white parts in comparable condition, the SN on the bolt having an over-stamped '5' as carefully imaged. Comparable condition stock with nicely marked cartouches and bayonet. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. A beautiful, high condition Mosin-Nagant M1891 rifle with an interesting history having both Russian Empire and U.S. Government markings.
