U.S. WWI MODEL 1917 ENFIELD, MFGR. REMINGTON
Description: PRICE JUST REDUCED BY $200! This shows to be an original U.S. Issued Remington Model 1917 Enfield Rifle that amazingly after 105 years still retains its superb, deep, rich 1918 Factory ‘’Blued’’ finish on virtually all parts and rates overall appx. 95%. Not Import marked, Not British or Canadian marked. What a Rarity today as virtually All WWI Model 1917 Enfield Rifles were totally Re-Arsenaled and Re-finished with All metal parts Arsenal Parkerized. What a RARE find/offering this is, as it is indeed a true ‘’survivor’’ in its ‘’Blued’’ parts! This U.S. WWI Remington Model 1917 Enfield Rifle is perfectly marked on its top front Receiver with’’U.S. over MODEL OF 1917 over REMINGTON over 510--- ‘’manufactured in August 1918 with the Barrel perfectly marked R over ORDNANCE FLAMING BOMB over 8-18’’. Brief Listing of the Fantastic Features: Absolute magnificent deep rich Remington Factory ‘’blue’’ finish on virtually most all parts and a superb deep, rich ‘’reddish brown’’ colored walnut wood set PLUS a MINT BORE! With only 3 manufacturers (Eddystone, Remington and Winchester) of the U.S. Model 1917 Enfield this example manufactured by Remington Arms-UMC of Ilion, New York is one of the finest of the 3 manufacturers and this particular example is indeed one of the finest to have survived. Never refinished and parkerized as a large number were after WWI. Also Note: The actual WWI ‘’8-18’’ (August 1918) barrel/manufacturing date that was/is well before the end of WWI! Manufactured in August 1918 and with the ‘’Great War’’ not ending till the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (Nov. 11, 1918) this is of early enough manufacture to well have been issued to serving Military personnel during actual WWI Service. Also, this variation was used extensively during both WWI and WWII! Matching/Originality: As stated this example still retains its original Remington August 1918 Factory blue finish and ‘’R 8-18’’ barrel with Mint Bore! Though we have not disassembled this magnificent rifle, there may be (due to its 105 years of age) parts not of Remington manufacture. Regardless, it is easy to see and quite evident that this is in all appearances a mostly original finish WWI Model 1917 with virtually all of its Original 1918 Factory ‘’Blued’’ parts and NOT a Re-Arsenaled or Refinished rifle that was parkerized. Finding any WWI Model 1917 Rifle in this unequaled condition is very RARE today. Finish & %: This untouched deep, rich Remington 1918 Factory blue is simply magnificent and rates at appx. 95 to 98%% remaining! The % of Original ‘’Blued’’ Finish on Parts:
*The receiver is perfectly marked ‘on its top front with with ’’U.S. over MODEL OF 1917 over REMINGTON over 510---‘’ and on the left receiver rail is a very dee, sharp and crisp Remington Factory ‘’ORDNANCE FLAMING BOMB’’ Proof! As this rifle was manufactured in August 1918 its Remington Factory Original barrel is perfectly marked ‘’R over ORDNANCE FLAMING BOMB over 8-18’’. Bore: This too is simply Magnificent and with only a dry patch ran through it the BORE rates absolutely Beautiful, bright, shiny and MINT. Again, this is indeed its absolute original ‘’8-18’’ Factory barrel and is quite rare to find in this condition, due to the highly corrosive ammunition used thru-out WWI, WWII and later. *Also judging by the amount of remaining Factory blue on the bolt face and receiver feedingramp this unequaled rifle has been fired very little. Action/Mechanically: This too is absolutely perfect and as new with the superb, crisp and smooth as silk action these Model 1917's are famous for when found in this Factory original condition. Wood Set: Absolutly BEAUTIFUL and MINTY Matching Walnut wood set that is without a doubt one of the finest I have seen. Both stock and the 2 hand guards match absolutely perfect in all respects, wood, grain, color and fit, easily seen to be absolutely original to each other and to this rifle! So crisp (as a new dollar bill) is this wood set that you can feel the grain ‘’whiskers’’ on the wood and the perfect as new ‘’virgin’’ sharpness of the edges especially on the stocks ‘’forearm finger-grooves’’. *The Stock has a partial, but crisp side strike ‘’EAGLE HEAD’’ Proof on the bottom right side of theforearm just to the front of the trigger housing! Also on the lower grip area is the other Factory markings and its early ‘’CIRCLE P’’ Proofing and a small Inspector stamping with these absolutely perfect! *On the left stock above the trigger is a very deep, sharp, crisp ‘’O.G.E.K. in Rectangle BOX’’ Cartouche these stand for Ogden Arsenal and the ‘’EK’’ for the famous ‘’Elmer Keith’’ who was notonly the inspector at Ogden Arsenal BUT also, quite well known for his many Firearm Articles and testing through the years. *Like trying to put a puzzle together and going by the evidence I see before me, it appears that judging by this Rifles superb condition, bore condition, mint mechanics etc., plus originality, that it was not a Re-Build and in fact, probably simply inspected. Also, helping confirm this thought, is its superb O/A condition with inspector stamped/Cartouched. History/Use: This Scarce original ‘’blued’’ finish Remington Model 1917 Enfield Rifle is without a doubt one of the nicest examples surviving and with its Original ‘’8-18’’ (August 1918) date of manufacture and ‘’510---‘’ Serial Number it is one that truly represents WWI History at its best! Manufactured in August 1918 and the ‘’Great War’’ not ending till the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11thmonth (Nov. 11, 1918) this is of early enough manufacture to well have been issued during actual WWI Service! The Model 1917 Enfield was a primary Rifle of WWI and one such and stated was used by the famous Sgt Alvin York hero and Medal of Honor recipient of the ‘’Great War’’! This variation was also used after WWI and into WWII by US Forces with many sent all over the world on ‘’Lend Lease’’ and onceagain virtually all were totally refinished (parkerized), Re-Arsenaled and Rebuilt with their metal finish being parkerized, parts totally mixed up and wood repaired/refurbished, but NOT this example! That is the reason that finding a magnificent ‘’virgin finish’’ Model 1917 Rifle such as this example is so very RARE today. If you ever wanted the absolute ‘’real thing’’ in a Model 1917 Enfield then be sure to give this example very careful consideration as one such as this will not come this way again for no doubt a very long time! With Re-Arsenaled and Refinished Model 1917 Rifles pushing easily the $1500. (or more) this superb Original ‘’Blued’’ 1918 Manufactured Rifle is indeed very fairly priced! Reasonable offers considered. Curio &Relic FFL Item SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Remington Model: 1917 Enfield |
