Remington No. 7 RIFLE, 95% CASE COLOR, HIGH CONDITION, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Remington, Year 1903, 25-10 Rimfire, 5lbs 9oz Serial Number: 300007 Here is one of Remington’s finest No. 7 TARGET & SPORTING RIFLES chambered in .25-10 rimfire, as found, in high factory original condition, untouched in any way, and it is a FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION GUN WITH SERIAL NUMBER 300007, MAKING IT THE 7TH NO. 7 RIFLE MADE BY REMINGTON in 1903. The serial number range for these rifles started at 300001. The production stopped in 1906, but some rifles were still sold as late as 1910. VERY RARE INDEED! Remington built these rifles with all hand-fit components and guaranteed them to be their most accurate rifle at the firing line or in the field. Only 350 of these No. 7 Rolling Block rifles were produced, and most have been used and have lost most of their original finish. The 26” barrel retains 98% factory blue with only a few blemishes from normal use and handling. The bore has all the rifling, continuous from muzzle to breech, with moderate pitting throughout. She will still spin bullets and shoot if you have an inkling to do so. The action retains 95% factory case color, vivid in most areas, with perfect screws and no notable flaws. The lightly figured European walnut retains the original factory hand rubbed finish with the expected handling marks, but no splits or cracks anywhere. The wood-to-metal fit is superb, and it is likely the wood has never been off the gun. The checkering shows some wear but is generally clear and strong for a 118-year-old gun. The forend has the factory schabel ebony tip, the grip cap and buttplate are intact and factory original. From the Remington Society of America’s , we find quite a nice dissertation on the production and history of these fine little rolling block rifles. They reference a researcher well known in this clique of collectors named Jerry Landskron, who has been compiling data on the Remington No. 7 for decades. One thing he notes is that he has seen examples of the No. 7 rifle with a barrel mounted rear sight. We know the Lyman tang sight is missing from this gun, but it does have a buckhorn rear sight that is properly mounted to the barrel. Our gunsmiths are making a blank to properly fit the mounting spot behind the hammer where the original Lyman receiver sight originally was. It will be hand fit and finished to blend into the gun so that there are no sharp edges exposed as there is now. The gun itself will not be altered in any way. Careful searches at gun shows and online could eventually find you the correct tang mounted peep sight. We have 4 talented gunsmiths here on site. If you want this rifle carefully and professionally inspected and cleaned, we can do that within 5 days of purchase. We do NOT BRUSH OR SCRUB THESE HISTORIC PIECES IN A WAY THAT REMOVES FINISH OR SHOWS CLEANING, but rather carefully disassemble the gun and soak the metal in a solution that removes the dried oil and gunk, allows us to get to clean, factory finished metal, inspect all parts, lubricate, and reassemble. The gun will LOOK MUCH BETTER AND REMOVING THE GRIME PRESERVES THE GUN PROPERLY. We did not do this yet on the gun as some collectors want their guns in “as found” condition. For $200 we can do a proper maintenance clean on the gun if you so choose. I would if it were mine. You will never be able to tell this was done unless you saw the gun before and after. Call to discuss if you wish. This gun is in premium condition and is priced accordingly, with consideration for the missing Lyman receiver sight. The overall condition is one of the finest I have been able to find on the internet, with one extraordinary example selling for over $10,000. We have priced this gun affordably in comparison. Thanks for looking at this high-condition, historically important and rare Remington No.7 Target and Sporting Rifle.
