Up for sale is a classic Remington Model 740 Woodsmaster semi-automatic rifle chambered in the hard-to-find .244 Remington. This is a vintage Ilion, NY production rifle featuring a 22" barrel and detachable 10-round magazine capacity. A great example of Remington’s early semi-auto sporting rifles, perfect for collectors or hunters looking for a fast-shooting deer or varmint rifle.
This rifle features a beautiful walnut stock with factory checkering on the grip and forearm. The bluing on the receiver and barrel is in very good condition overall, showing light handling marks consistent with age but no major pitting or abuse. The bore appears clean, and the rifle retains its original iron sights.
Mounted on top is a Redfield 2x–7x variable power scope in sturdy steel rings and base, making this setup ready to hunt right out of the box. The receiver markings are crisp and clear, and the rifle presents very well overall.
Chambered in .244 Remington (precursor to the 6mm Remington), this is a flat-shooting and effective caliber for deer and varmints alike.
