Remington Rolling Block No.1 Sporting .50 caliber rifle.
Chambered in .50 caliber. These rifles were used throughout the West to hunt buffalo on the plains. Rifle has a 24” heavy octogen barrel with an even gray patina and adjustable trigger. Stock shows some hunting wear. Has a period field repair on the left side of the gun next to the receiver with two pins. Bore has strong rifling with some minor pitting.
Rifle comes with a set of three skinning knifes. 1st Knife is a Village of Watertown, Wisconsin. Blade length is 12” with an overall length of 17½”. 2nd Knife is a Russell Green River Works skinning / hunting knife. Grip is checkered rose wood. 3rd Knife is a “Dadley” style straight blade hunting knife with checkered rose wood grips. Blade has no maker mark. We believe it to be a Russell Green knife. This is a great excellent example of a sporting rifle and knives used by buffalo hunters!
