Experimental Remington .310 GA Rifle From Factory Vice President
Offered here for sale and just acquired is a HIGHLY collectible experimental or prototype pump rifle in .310 GAUGE. The rifle was acquired decades ago in the collection of a Remington Vice President whose home was here in Connecticut. There were two plants here which centered on shotgun  ammunition as well as regional hubs associated with the corporate HQ in Ilion, NY. We were fortunate to have acquired a number of arms from the Remington Museum Reference collection that were de-accessioned in 1948 and over our more than 5 decades in the business here in Southport, CT we were in “ear shot” of Bridgeport, CT’s Remington “Shot Tower” which manufactured shotgun shell components.
This specimen has the appearance of a Remington 552 semi-auto rifle as well as 572 pump rifle yet is UNMARKED as to Model. It has the Remington barrel address as well as Remington name on the receiver with “standard” fonts used by factory but the barrel is stamped in a different font “.310 GAUGE REMINGTON”.
“.310 Remington” refers to a very small rimfire shotgun cartridge that Remington marketed for miniature skeet/clay target games. It’s essentially a novelty/recreational shotshell, a .32 caliber casing filled with shot, not a standard shotgun gauge. This appears to be an experimental rifle designed to be a pump or semi-auto version. The rifle is stamped differently on the underside of receiver with just the numbers “123”. This may or may not be a serial number (or production number). It also has a vent rib in place. The rifle has numerous use marks consistent with a “test” or experimental gun. There is a “marred” screw in the bottom of the slide which appears to be placed to prohibit action of slide. We have left this screw in place and as is.
Hansen & Hansen will offer a documentation letter attesting to its acquisition to go along with the purchase.
A piece which will certainly occupy a valued place in any Remington collection.
