Remington No.5 Saddle Ring Carbine - 7mm
Description: The item for sale is a Remington No.5 saddle ring carbine chambered for the 7mm cartridge. The carbine is complete and original including stock, forearm, handguard, butt plate and sights. This was a popular firearm during the Mexican Revolution and used by both the Mexican Army and the revolutionaries. This carbine is probably a survivor of that conflict judging from the carvings on the stock. This would have been carried by the revolutionaries (Villa or Zapata's men) as the guns purchased by the Mexican government were marked with the Mexican Crest on the receiver. The guns of the revolutionaries would not have this marking nor was this carbine marked with the Crest. The carbine is in good condition obviously showing use but remarkably in original condition and not missing parts. It still retains the sling rings, saddle ring, correct sights. forearm with hand guard and stock with the correct butt plate. The action is tight with the hammer and trigger feeling strong as they should. The bore is good with some erosion as to be expected with a firearm carried in the revolution. The stock buttplate and receiver are stamped 301. There may be another number on the other tang but not discernable due to pitting. The barrel is marked 7mm as it should. There is pitting on the underside of the barrel next to the forearm where moisture was trapped. Overall, a nice example of this carbine with historical significance. Please add $45 for shipping and insurance. A C&R or FFL will be required for shipment. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
