Description: SOLD *** This rifle is for the knowledgeable sportsman looking for a classic African rifle in a serious caliber but at a reasonable price. Based on prior experiences many knowledgeable hunters do not feel the .375 H&H (300 gr.) cartridge, while adequate for larger plains game, is sufficient for Buffalo. They wanted something with more knockdown power for dangerous game. This Mauser action Churchill chambered for Calibre 404 (.404 Jeffrey) shoots a hard hitting 400 grain bullet. This is the legendary cartridge used throughout Africa during the late 19th century in the equivalent .450/400 Nitro Express cartridge and as the .404 Jeffrey bolt action round in the 20th century and was known as the “game ranger’s” caliber since it was lethal on all known game but had modest recoil. *** Churchill bolt rifle no. 75081 is believed to have been made by Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd. at their 7 Bury Street address in London during the 1960’s. It does not appear to have been fired very much at all. As there are no Interarms markings on the gun it is believed to be a “true” Churchill. The barrel is marked on the top “Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd. 7 Bury Street, St. James’, London, England”. It is also marked “Calibre 404”. *** It is a classic Mauser-style controlled-round feed bolt action rifle with claw extractor and 3-position wing safety. It has not been drilled and tapped. It has a hooded ramped front sight and three express flip-up rear sights – for 100, 200, and 300 yards which have not been filed in. It is stocked in a nicely figured walnut stock with matte finish. It has a righthand cheek piece and metal grip cap. Length of pull is 14” including a 1” rubber recoil pad. Magazine capacity is 3 + 1. Weight is 8lb 9oz so it can easily be carried in the bush with enough weight to temper felt recoil. Barrel length is 25 inches. Included are 17 rounds of Nosler Safari 400 grain solid point cartridges. *** This handsome and rugged African stopping rifle was made by the renowned British gunmaker Chuchill in London. It is chambered in a caliber suitable for dangerous game. It is priced in the middle range and manufactured by a high quality English gunmaker. Take an unforgettable rifle on your African safari and make your own memories of a lifetime!*** I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
