1966 Paul Jaeger Deluxe Custom 98 Mauser Sporter in .358 Norma Magnum w/ period Leupold Scope, Gun-Ho Case, & Hat SALE PENDING
Description: This is a spectacular vintage Paul Jaeger Deluxe Custom 98 Mauser Sporter chambered in the potent .358 Norma Magnum cartridge. Built in November of 1966 (barrel dated on underside), this Paul Jaeger rifle has a ton of features and comes with a period Leupold 3x9-40 Vari-X II scope with a fine crosshair and dot reticle on a Paul Jaeger quick-detachable side mount and period Gun-Ho hard case. This handsome rifle was built on a FN commercial Supreme action with a high-gloss blue finish and features a fully adjustable trigger, a hand-checkered bolt knob, a polished and jeweled bolt and magazine follower, a custom cantilever bolt release, a steel bow-release trigger guard, and a 22" inch Douglas premium grade barrel fitted with an improved Jaeger front sight ramp and hood. The rear sight is a Lyman Model 57 receiver-mounted adjustable peep sight. The barrel is drilled and tapped for a rear iron sight, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for optics bases as additional options. As mentioned earlier, this Jaeger is fit with a Jaeger quick-release side scope mount which allows the rifle to retain the front and rear iron sights in-place which can be used with the scope removed. This all but ensures that at any given time you will have at least one method at your disposal to accurately sight the rifle even if the scope fails. The stock on this custom Paul Jaeger rifle is a work of art. Built from a beautiful piece of French Walnut, this hand-checkered and hand-shaped stock features wrap-around point-pattern checkering with Mullard borders, a blued steel pistol grip cap, an Ebony forend tip, Jaeger quick detach sling swivel studs, and a shadow-line cheek piece. A 1/2" inch Pachmayr recoil pad has been fit to the butt, making the length of pull 13.5" inches. The stock is numbered to the rifle in the barrel channel and also contains the signature of the stock maker which we could not quite make out. As you can see from the pictures, this stock shows a lot of beautiful figure and contrasting color throughout the stock. The stock's lines are all graceful and with purpose, and the metal to wood fitment is excellent. While we are sure this rifle has been fired since being built, it is obvious that it hasn't been fired much, and has spent the vast majority of it's life in storage. The original gloss blue finish rates 98%, with the only deductions coming from some very tiny little handling marks and a little marring of the rear action screw's slot. There are no bad spots or eyesores on this rifle! The bore in this Paul Jaeger custom is mirror-bright and pristine. There is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible. The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel. The stock is in excellent condition as well, showing only some very minor handling/storage marks in the wood. The checkered panels are crisp and clean, and the stock is free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear. The sights are in great shape as well, including the Leupold scope with crystal clear optics and perfect scratch-free glass at both ends. The action on the rifle is extremely smooth, slick, and precise, turning into and out-of battery perfectly. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and the trigger breaks like a thin glass rod without any grit, slop, or excessive travel. With the .358 Norma Magnum chambering this rifle is capable of taking any big game in North America, and many more big and/or dangerous game species all over the world. This vintage rifle is truly a work of functional art and is world-class in quality. You could carry this rifle into any hunting camp in the world with pride. If you have been looking for a vintage custom rifle in a cool caliber from a famous maker to add to your collection, this Paul Jaeger Deluxe Custom 98 Mauser Sporter in .358 Norma Magnum would be a superb choice. This rifle is C&R eligible.
