This Mannlicheer style full stocked double set trigger Czech sporting rifle was made prior to WWII. The overall length is approx. 41"". The approx. 20..5"" barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The top of the barrel is marked 8.2 X 57 and the left side forward of the rear sight is stamped 7.9 in small numerals. The prior owner had it listed as 7.92X57mm caliber but the bolt won""t quite close on that headspace gauge so we assume that 8.2X57mm may well be the correct caliber (but we are unable to confirm it). The top of the barrel is marked in script J. Skacel. The left side of the chamber nas 1949 (J. Stakel serial/inventory number, not a date) with the serial number below with the Czech Prague smokless powder proof next to it. The barrel has a blade front sight and two leaf rear sight graduated at 100 and 300 meters. The receiver ring has the circular Z CZ logo and the left side of the receiver is marked WAFFENWERKE BRUNN.A.G. with an additional smokeless proof and the serial number on the lower left. The gun has approx. 98% bule. The trigger guard bow and floorplate are tastefully relief engraved iwith stag heads. The stock is excellent with crisp checkering on the wrist and forend and no cracks or chips. There is an oval eschetcheon on the lower butt that is engraved LOLB. The hard rubber pistol grip cap is of the gargoyle head type. The hard rubber buttplate has a forest scene including three deer. The rifle is equipped with European style sling swivels. The receiver bridge has two quick detach scope bases. Mounted to this on quick detach see through mounts is a scope marked on the left front JOSEF SKACEL over PARDUBICE (manufacturer) followed by Nr 1949 (matching the barrel). The top rear is marked SRBASTYS over PRAHA (Prague) over LOVEC 4X over C.70069. The optics are excellent. The double set trigger action functions correctly. This fine Czech sporting rifle is ready for your European sporting rifile collection. While German guns are common, Czech rifles of the type and quality of this one are rarely seen.
