Engraved AUSTRIAN SxS Rifle & 16 Gauge Shotgun Combination CAPE GUN C&R
With CHECKERED STOCK and GAME SCENE ENGRAVINGS
Description: Engraved AUSTRIAN SxS Rifle & 16 Gauge Shotgun Combination CAPE GUN C&R With CHECKERED STOCK and GAME SCENE ENGRAVINGS Here we present a C&R Side by Side Rifle & Shotgun Combination Gun, manufactured circa 1929 in Austria. These were typically high-end hunting weapons that featured a side-by-side configuration with one barrel rifled and the other smooth. The hunter would use the rifled barrel to fire long range, precise shots against large game and the smooth side could be loaded with a large ball or slug for a quick follow up shot, especially on large and dangerous game. Or the smooth bore could be loaded with shot to make it feasible to hunt fowl at the same time without carrying multiple guns. The gun has two triggers to allow either barrel as needed. Cape guns made in Germany, Belgium, and Austria usually have the rifled barrel on the right side (as is this one), while British made cape guns are usually reversed. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead or put game on the table. This one is dated to 1929 under the barrel. The shotgun is 16 gauge while the rifled barrel is marked as 6.8 (mm) underneath. The chamber dimensions for the rifled bore are .435” for the rim diameter and .350” for the base of the case. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The engravings are well-done and clear. The numbers match. The actions are excellent. The bores are bright with the shotgun bore being smooth and the rifled bore being well-rifled. Does not appear to have been used for hundreds of rounds. There are the barrel mounted sights and a flip-up peep in the tang. The stock is in very good shape overall. There is a short and stable (unmoving) crack between the right lock and the receiver tang. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrels are 27-1/8 inches. Caliber: 6.8mm Rifle beside 16 Gauge Smoothbore Shotgun Chamber: 2 9/16 inches with extractor Choke: Full LOP: 13-1/2 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1295 #226989 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
