E.J. Churchill “Baronet” .375 H&H Magnum | Exceptional Walnut | London Sporting Rifle | Certified Safari-Ready™

Description:
Offered here is a finely executed E.J. Churchill “Baronet” bolt-action rifle chambered in the legendary .375 H&H Magnum—an elegant London sporting rifle blending traditional dangerous-game utility with refined bespoke craftsmanship.
Built on a Mauser-pattern controlled-round-feed action and finished in classic London style, this rifle represents the type of practical yet highly refined safari rifle for which E.J. Churchill has long been respected among knowledgeable sporting arms enthusiasts.
The rifle features a 24-inch barrel with island express rear sight, ramp front sight, and a beautifully proportioned walnut stock fitted with an ebony forend tip and shadowline cheekpiece. Serial number 10,115. The rifle measures 14 5/8” length of pull and weighs approximately 8 pounds with engraved Talley quick-detachable rings installed, giving it excellent balance and lively handling while still retaining enough weight for comfortable use with the .375 H&H Magnum.
The action incorporates a Model 70-style three-position safety, massive claw extractor, fixed blade ejector, and smooth controlled feeding ideally suited for dangerous-game use. The receiver and bolt shroud display attractive case colors, complemented by nitre-blued small parts including the safety lever, extractor, bolt release, and cocking piece.
The rifle exhibits tasteful scroll engraving throughout the receiver, bottom metal, and grip cap. Particularly attractive details include the engraved and casehardened recoil bolt escutcheon, engraved floorplate marked “4 CARTRIDGES,” and engraved Talley quick-detachable rings marked “375/H&H” and “E.J.C./10,115” respectively.
The stock is crafted from highly figured walnut displaying strong contrast and flowing mineral figure while maintaining excellent grain structure through the wrist for proper field durability. Fine multi-point checkering remains sharp throughout, and the stock architecture is exceptionally well executed for instinctive offhand shooting and practical safari use.
Importantly, the rifle has recently undergone professional restoration work by New England Custom Gun Service (NECG), including replacement and proper regulation of the correct island express rear sight assembly along with restoration of the barrel finish in the affected area. The rifle now presents as a complete and properly configured dangerous-game rifle consistent with its original design intent.
A new Swarovski Z6i premium safari optic is available separately at additional cost and pairs exceptionally well with this rifle’s configuration and engraved quick-detachable mounting system.
The .375 H&H Magnum remains one of the most versatile and universally respected sporting cartridges ever developed. Equally suitable for plains game, elk, moose, buffalo, and dangerous game worldwide, it continues to represent the benchmark by which all safari cartridges are judged.
Condition remains excellent overall, retaining approximately 98% finish with only light handling evidence. Mechanically excellent with crisp checkering, sharp engraving, and a strong bright bore.
Rifles of this quality and configuration from established London makers are increasingly difficult to source, particularly examples balancing practical field utility with refined aesthetics in such an elegant manner. E.J. Churchill bolt-action safari rifles are seldom encountered on the U.S. market, making this a particularly uncommon offering for the collector, sportsman, or African hunter seeking a refined London sporting rifle outside the more frequently encountered Rigby and Holland & Holland examples.
