Holland & Holland .375 H&H Magnum Take-Apart Hykro Steel Barrel, Cased.
Holland & Holland .375 Take Apart Cased Model 98 Bolt Rifle with Hykro Steel barrel. The action is undrilled, blue is strong and unmarred, stippled panel front ring, aluminum bottom metal and trigger guard with patent release marked "4 Cartridges" These aluminum bottom metal groups were found on Holland bolt rifles in the 1950s, this is a late 1952 rifle. The take apart system works by having the rear action screw remain along with a corresponding top tang extension. When you remove the front action screw with an American Quarter or a British Sixpence, the action lifts out of the stock leaving the bottom metal and guard behind in the stock for a nice length package to case. In my opinion this is a better system than the type where the barrel unscrews from the action and a separate fore end piece detaches as well. The barrel is 25" Hykro steel barrel that was designed to resist erosion from primer contaminates. It seems to have worked as this rifle has an impeccable bore! The rear sight base is filled with a blank as there is a bolt mounted peep sight, of unknown by me, manufacture with an easily adjustable dial elevation. The banded front sight is a small bead with a stippled ramp. The barrel is marked "Holland's .375 Magnum" Rimless Cartridge "Hykro" steel and Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street, London and .375 Magnum London proof, barrel band sling swivel. The stock is original to the rifle and is in very good to excellent condition with no cracking at all in the webs nor any past repairs, minimal oil soaking, factory recoil lug, chequering and finish appear to be old or orignal as does the Silvers pad, 14 1/2" length of pull, trap grip cap with extra front sight inside. The case is not original to the rifle, but is a few numbers apart and the rifle fits perfectly and has room for a scope should the new owner want to have one fitted. The rifle weighs 8lbs 1oz and most of this era rifle shoot equally well with either the 300 or the 270 grain loading. The caliber was developed from 1899 to its final realization in 1912 and is possibly the most versatile all around round ever developed.
