Used Lon Paul custom in .500 Jeffery on a CZ 602 ZKK action with a single square bridge. Length of pull of 14 5/16” to an orange rubber pad featuring a widow’s peak. Per Lon Paul directly, he originally built this rifle for himself in the late 1990s (exact date unavailable due to his records having been destroyed in a forest fire circa 2013). Per Lon, this ZKK 602 action is of later production which has a full-thickness sidewall. The trigger is Lon's own. The Model 70-style safety/bolt shroud was made by Jim Wisner and fitted by Lon Paul.
Barrel marked “LON PAUL - GUNMAKER” and the receiver ring reads “JEFFERY’S .500 RIMLESS MAGNUM”. Prince of Wales stock with an engraved trapdoor grip cap, magazine box takes three down and the action feeds and ejects flawlessly. Blade front sight with a folding moon sight on a matted ramp. Rear sight on a matted quarter rib with one gold lined folding leaf in addition to a field-removable peep sight on the square bridge. Model 70-style three-position safety, beaded edge pancake cheekpiece, barrel band front swivel mount, checkered wrist and forend with mullered borders, and an ebony forend tip. Spare front sight, blank insert for square bridge, and a plunger to remove the peep sight in the grip cap trapdoor.
Small scroll engraving on the floorplate, trigger guard, and grip cap. Engraved Niter blued screws and engraved recoil crossbolt. Case color hardened three position safety lever, recoil crossbolt, and trapdoor grip cap. The rifle remains near new condition. Beautifully figured straight grained walnut stock and checkering in excellent condition with hardly any sign of field use, despite having gone to Africa several times. Excellent bore with sharp and crisp lands. Bluing on barrel, action, and furniture rates near perfect.
