Classic Winchester Model 70 “Super Express”

This rifle is a mid 90’s birth certificate and remained new in the packing until February of 2023. It was pulled and cleaned, fired about 20rds through it. New Build forced Sale, I bought it and its been in my safe. I am getting rid of a good portion of my rifles and this is something, while I dream about using on the bush veldt of SA, I just don’t think its going to happen….

Winchester Model 70 Super Express chambered in the quintessential .458 WM that was so popular in the mid 1900’s.
This rifle features all the “goodness” of the classic pre 64 that led to the cult following of Winchester….
Except it was built 30yrs later…

Earlier this year I contacted Winchester, as I was looking for a safari model in .375 h&h. I was told, “we haven’t done a run of safari calibers in almost 2 years and if you were to order one today you wouldn’t be expecting production for at least 2 years”…evidently Winchester is more interested in running rifles in the $300 range, cheap actions and tupperware stocks…
My point being that these are a bit hard to come by.

Model 70 Controlled Round Feed action. A true classic!
-beautiful jeweling on the bolt body, no wear
-2 piece bottom metal, with the floor plate engraved “Super Express”
Also uses the Pre 64 style trigger, simple, easy to service in the field
-This is an option that was only found for a handful of years after Winchester returned to making the CRF actions. It falls in with the crf 
   production but it is before Winchester moved to the MOA trigger system that is utilized today.
-Trigger breaks very nice
Beautiful bluing all around and remains in “like new” condition.
As you can see the stock has some nice character and good grain for the caliber
-two cross bolts in the stock to help mitigate recoil
-classic red pad
-nice bedding of the action
-super grade style sling swivel on the rear and a barrel mounted option up front
-Checkering is very nice and definitely of higher quality than I see these days
-a good looking grip cap is another option that differ’s this rifle from the safari class m70’s of current production
-another thing you’ll find is the overall shape of this stock just feels better “in hand” than current production rifles
The barrel is the heavy safari contour
-22” barrel length, quick handling and superior to the current models, in my opinion
-with open sights, a flip down island style rear. I nice white bead on the front,  no hood with the front sight
-bluing is good and the crown is flawless

The bluing and the wood are flawless and while this has been handled, minimally, I find no “marks” that I can even get a photo of.
This has been handled though so please expect there may be some very minor handling marks
This rifle is in fantastic shape.
