SOLD ** MNR Custom African .416 Rigby, 23” bl., engraved, As New
MNR Custom (Matthew N Roberts) LLC, 1415 Little Canada Road, Springfield Vermont, .416 Rigby, built on a Bauska BBK-02 Double Square Bridge Magnum Mauser Action. Barrel length is 23” with 1 in 16.5” twist. Although MNR Custom LLC, as a custom gunmaker, has only been around a few years, their reputation is becoming world renown… and with reason. The company uses only the finest materials and employs the finest craftsmenship in creating their masterpiece rifles.
For this one, they started with a true forged double square bridge Express Magnum action. And the Krieger 23” barrel is machined with an integral quarter rib and integral barrel recoil lug 6” forward of the receiver – only master gunmaker touches. The barrel houses an NECG Masterpiece banded ramp front sight with button-release quick detachable hood, a rear Express sight with shallow leaf and silver center line (preferred for dangerous game) in the quarter rib, and a banded front sling eye. The action is fitted with a 3-position wing safety, like a Winchester Model 70 safety in style and direction of operation, on a contoured bolt sleeve.
MNR Custom has done intricate stippling with engraved borders on the tops of the two square bridges and the quarter rib, with a large stylized MNR logo engraved in front of the rear sight. With drop box magazine, all the undermetal is blued steel and engraved. The floor plate, floor plate hinge, trigger guard and pistol grip cap are beautifully engraved with scrolls and leaves with gold wire borders. The 2-screw pistol grip cap has an intricate African cape buffalo at its center surrounded by scrolls and leaves and a gold wire border.
Wearing a Nikon Monarch African 1.1-4x24 (30mm) scope with deplex reticle, the QD scope rings mount directly to the square bridges and are made by Alaska Arms LLC, known by few but considered better than Talley and Warne because of their positive and quick return to zero after scope removal.
Inscriptions: The front receiver ring is inscribed: “BBK-02” on the right and the serial number, L0342, on the left. MNR is engraved on the quarter rib, and the caliber marking is on the left chamber side of the barrel. All bluing is soft rust blue, the hardest blue to achieve and one that emulates the old pre-64 Winchester Super Grade blue.
The heavy fiddle-back patterned stock is shaped in pure classic styling using 4X special select grade of English Walnut that has the proper lay-out for big bore strength. The beautiful mahogany color of this stock is mated with a Macassar ebony forend tip (showing some of the same reddish color), a classic cheekpiece with contoured shadowline, and two ebony covered action cross bolts. Checkering is point pattern, 26lpi, and wraps the forend and pistol grip and is exquisitely executed. Stock furniture includes a vacant inlaid monogram oval, a 2-screw pistol grip cap, and an inletted 2-screw rear sling eye. MNR didn’t miss a thing! LOP is 14” to brown leather-covered recoil pad. Weight 9 lb 8 oz (without scope) and 10 lb 9 oz with scope.
As new, test-fired only.
Although built heavy to sustain recoil, this rifle comes to hand quickly as a true Big Game rifle with perfect balance, and with the sights aligned dead-on. It would also make a perfect big bear gun.
According to their , MNR African Model bolt actions start at $9,500 without scope and without some of the custom features here. With all the bells and whistles, the MSRP for this rifle would be $14,450 with scope and engraving. The custom firm is fully engaged in building what will undoubtedly be the heirlooms of tomorrow.
