1994 Vintage Marlin Model 444SS in .444 Marlin
** Sought-After Discontinued Model! ** REDUCED!
Description: The Marlin Model 444SS "Sporter" lever-action rifle in the potent .444 Marlin caliber was first introduced in 1984 and was manufactured until 2011. This classy and versatile lever-action repeater features a factory blue finish with a 22" inch barrel with Micro-Groove rifling, a 5-shot tube magazine, an adjustable semi-buckhorn folding rear sight with a ramp front sight, an American Black Walnut pistol grip stock set with hand-cut checkering, and a factory installed Marlin logo recoil pad. The Marlin 444SS quickly earned a reputation for being a very well made gun that was both very reliable and powerful enough for any game in North America. The 444SS was brought back by popular demand for one year between 2014 and 2015 but has not been made since. This particular example was made in 1994 and while it has been lightly used, it is in great shape overall and is a very cool looking lever gun. If not for some humidity in the room in which it was stored it would be nearly perfect. As it sits now the original gloss blue factory finish rates 93% +/-, with the majority of the deductions coming from the bottom of the receiver and the inside surface of the lever. As you can see in the pictures provided, there is also some minor speckling scattered around on the reciever and a few small spots of marring on the barrel exterior, but nothing that takes too much away from the very attractive look of the rifle. The bore is in pristine condition and mirror bright. The Micro-Groove rifling still looks brand new with sharp lands and grooves, and there is zero pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible. This Marlin 444SS was made in the first year in which the stock was made with hand-cut checkering in 1994. The factory American Black Walnut stock set is in excellent condition overall with no cracks, chips, or repairs. The checkering on the forearm and pistol grip is still nice and crisp with sharp edges and with no visible wear or soiling. The only deduction we could find that kept the stock set from being considered minty is a small dent on the top left edge of the forearm. There is a close-up picture (# 17) provided of this area to see what we are describing. The factory black pistol grip cap and white spacer is in excellent shape and intact, and the factory recoil pad is perfectly fit to the butt and still tight to the wood. The length of pull on this Marlin is 13 & 5/8ths inches to the end of the pad. The rifle does have a set of sling swivel studs installed on it, whether they are factory or aftermarket we do not know. Regardless of who installed them, they were expertly installed and they certainly look factory. The internals on this Marlin are pristine and clean. They show no mechanical wear and it is very likely this gun has only been shot a handful of times since it left the factory. All of the controls on this gun are in perfect working order. The action is nice and smooth when worked, and the bolt and lever locks into battery perfectly. The trigger is quite good for a lever action, breaking with a light pull with no slop or grit. Whether you are looking for a cool new gun to carry in bear country or an investment piece for your collection this Marlin 444SS would be an excellent choice. This particular model has become very sought-after and should continue to appreciate every year. This rifle has just enough wear that as long as you care for it you should be able to enjoy it at the range or in the woods and still have a nice investment piece.
