"British Martini-Henry Sporting Rifle (AL5125)
"British Martini-Henry Sporting rifle. Overall length is 45". The 29" round barrel has a good bore with strong dark rifling. All metal has a smooth blue/brown finish. The checkered stocks are very good with no cracks or chips. The barrel is marked “Henry’s Patent B983" on the right and on the left side two Birmingham proofs with “52" between them, followed by another proof, followed by “W.T.". The top 5¾" of the barrel is flat with a rear sight mounted on it. Rear sight has a fixed 50-yards leaf and folding leaves for 100, 200 and 300-yards. The receiver has decorative engraved scroll work surrounding a circle with two crossed pennants with a “B" below and below that is the serial number, 1560, and below that “Martini’s Patent". The lever and trigger guard also have decorative engraving. Barrel and butt stock have sling swivel eyes. Acton works correctly and has the early sling safety on the right side. This is a very nice example of a Martini-Henry Sporting rifle. It would look good in any single shot or British Sporting collection. The caliber is the desirable .577/.450. Don’t miss this one!
