GOLD INLAID SWISS Antique C. JAQUET of GENEVA Percussion SCHUETZEN Rifle
Mid-19th SPORTING/HUNTING RIFLE w/DOUBLE SET TRIGGER
Description: GOLD INLAID SWISS Antique C. JAQUET of GENEVA Percussion SCHUETZEN Rifle
Mid-19th SPORTING/HUNTING RIFLE w/DOUBLE SET TRIGGER
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Swiss Percussion Schuetzen Rifle by C. Jaquet of Geneva, Switzerland, made circa the 1840s-1850s. We found several different Jaquet gunmakers in Geneva and we surmise that they are likely related. The best known and documented of them was Henri, who operated circa 1820-1850s. In addition to Henri and our C. Jaquet, there was also M. Jaquet who was an arms inspector in the late 19th Century.
This rifle features a 34” octagonal barrel, double set triggers, and a Swiss butt plate. The triggers are light and crisp, and the rifle can be fired with the triggers set or not. The maker's mark is set deeply on the top of the barrel and inlaid with gold.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent and the set trigger is fully functional and very nice. The bore has been bored smooth to .72 caliber. The stock is solid, showing honest use.
