SOLD - #8077, Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1952 Rifle in 9.3 x 62 Made in 1952 for Stoeger Arms Corp. in New York, Then Custom Stocked with a full length Mannlicher style stock, 23 1/2" barrel with 1 standing & 1 folding rear sight, A safety on the right side of the receiver bridge plus a factory flag safety, Single trigger, A neat peep sight mounted on the bolt release that is spring actuated to slide rearward on the bolt opening and forward on the bolt closing, It returns to zero after any bolt opening or closing, Unused left side dummy plate for a side mount, The receiver has never been drilled or tapped for scope mounts including the rear flat above the bolt release, Some of the Model 1952's were drilled and tapped on the rear, All steel rotary spool magazine, Straight comb stock, Sling eyes with a leather Montana Sling, Cheekpiece, Steel forend cap, 14" LOP over a buttplate, 7 lbs. 13 oz., It is glass bedded nearly full length. This Austrian classic barreled action remains totally original, The original factory blue remains at 98-99%, The wood finish remains at 99%, The checkering at 100%, I am sure it has been shot but it wasn't much as the bore is excellent plus and looks like new. Ferdinand Ritter Von Mannlicher designed this great action and Otto Schoenauer designed the rotary drum magazine. It all started life as the Model 1903 in the great 6.5 x 54mm cartridge that is still used today all across this planet. After WW II, most Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles and carbines were imported into the U.S. by the Stoeger Arms Corporation. The first M/S's that came to the U.S. after the war was the Model 1950. When the Model 1952 came out many had a bolt handle in the white. This unique design is the smoothest of all turn bolt actions. The cost of manufacturing the Mannlicher-Schoenauer action drove the price up and eventually Steyr could no longer afford to produce this great traditional action and then their line was redesigned in 1972 for more economical manufacture. Ernest Hemmingway and W.D.M. Bell both used the Model 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer Carbine. Bell used his 1903 Carbine with 160 grain solids on Elephant.
