This 8mm Mauser caliber Model 98 sporting rifle was made from a military action after WWI. The overall length is approx. 43.5"". The approx. 24"" round stepped barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is equipped with a ramped blade ftont sight and two leaf rear sight. The left side of the receiver is marked Gewhrfabrik Danzig at the center with an Austrian proof (also on the bolt handle root) and the serial number, 725, to the left front. The receiver, bolt, and scope mount numbers match. The scope is mounted on see through quick detach mounts. It is marke GERARD snd appears to have been refinished. The post and crosshair optics are clear. The gun has approx.. 92% blue with the floorplate and buttplate turning brown. The stock is excellent with no cracks or chips, a nicely defined cheekpiece, and sharp checkering at the wrist of the full pistoll grip. The rifle is equipped with European style sling swivels on the barrel and butt of the stock. The double set trigger action functions correctly. This is a fine example of a scoped Austrian sporting rifle fabricated from a WWI military Model 98 rifle action. It is ready for your European sporting rifle collection.
