German Manual-Cocking Cape Gun
Description: Serial #187502, 16 Ga. (2 1/2") and 8.15 x 46R, 26 3/4" barrels with fine, bright bores that have some mild freckling along their lengths. This is a handsome, non-maker marked gun that has German blackpowder proofs, as well as a Liege "Perron" and "*/S" inspector mark on the water table. The barrels have retained 80-85% of the original blue with some fading to mellow plum-brown, and a few areas of silvering, especially along the raised central rib. The frame has traces of muted color case-hardening on a few protected areas, but otherwise has a mottled pewter gray and brown patina. The gun opens via a conventional top lever, while a cocking/decocking lever is present on the left side of the frame. The checkered splinter forend, and pistol-grip buttstock with Continental cheek-piece, are in fine shape, with a few minor handling marks scattered about the original finish, and very little flattening of the points. The buttstock has a LOP just a hair under 14", with drops of 1 1/2" and 2 5/8" respectively. The barrels are slightly off-face, but could easily be brought back up to snuff, and a period, still serviceable leather sling is fitted. This is a very good, well-made German combination gun, chambered in classic German rounds, and would be a worthy candidate for restoration.
