The Casartelli Deluxe .416 Rigby is an exceptionally refined Italian safari rifle built by famed Brescia gunmaker Carlo Casartelli, one of the most respected bespoke rifle makers to emerge from Italy’s legendary gunmaking region. Combining traditional dangerous game rifle architecture with extraordinary Italian craftsmanship and elegant finishing details, this rifle represents a true high-grade safari arm built to the standards of London best rifles. Chambered in the legendary .416 Rigby, the rifle is built on a robust Mauser action with a traditional 2-position safety and carries a 3+1 capacity. The rifle weighs 10 pounds 2 ounces without the scope and 11 pounds 9.7 ounces with the optic installed, placing it squarely in the ideal weight range for managing heavy dangerous game recoil while maintaining proper field handling. The rifle features a 25" barrel fitted with classic safari-style iron sights including a banded express rear sight with one standing and two folding leaves, paired with a ramped front sight incorporating a flip-up hood. Included with the rifle is a premium Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x42 scope featuring a #4 reticle, first focal plane configuration, and traditional claw mounts. This combination offers excellent versatility for both close-range dangerous game work and longer shots across open country while maintaining classic safari rifle aesthetics. This example remains in very good overall condition, showing only faint wear typical of careful age and use. The bore is clear with sharp rifling, the action is smooth, and the trigger remains crisp. The rifle’s metalwork displays the elegant detailing expected from Casartelli. The receiver and barrel retain a rich blued finish, while the floorplate is especially striking, featuring a gold inlaid lion at center surrounded by scroll chevrons, border engraving, and decorative accents. The serial number is engraved into the trigger guard, while the pistol grip cap carries matching scroll engraving. A barrel-banded sling swivel and additional swivel mounted in the belly of the stock complete the traditional dangerous game configuration. The deluxe walnut stock is particularly attractive, displaying beautiful scalloped grain throughout. Sharp diamond-pattern checkering appears on both the pistol grip and forend, while an ebony forend tip and classic orange recoil pad complete the rifle’s elegant appearance. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of the overall condition. Carlo Casartelli was regarded by many as one of the finest bespoke gunmakers in Italy, producing magazine rifles, double rifles, and fine shotguns of extraordinary quality from the Brescia region. His rifles were often entirely handcrafted and finished to standards rivaling the finest British makers, with many engraved by renowned Italian master engravers. This deluxe .416 Rigby exemplifies that philosophy perfectly—combining classic dangerous game functionality with exquisite Italian artistry and craftsmanship. A true bespoke safari rifle, this Casartelli would be equally at home in Africa pursuing dangerous game or displayed among a serious collection of fine sporting arms.
