John Rigby, London. Classic .416 Rigby Magnum “Big Game” Rifle on a magnum Mauser action
Description:
John Rigby, London. Classic .416 Rigby Magnum “Big Game” Rifle on a magnum Mauser action, shipped to Manton & Co. on 30 Sept 1924 for the Raja of Talcher. Weight: 9 ¾ Lbs.
Stock Dimensions: 14 ¾” LOP and ¼” cast-off.
Beautiful 25” heavy, multi-stage, steel barrel with excellent bore as the accompanying target will attest. This rifle came from Rigby in 1924 with a scope and the action mounts you see in the photos are the originals. As you will see (and read), the modern scope, with custom rings to fit the original Rigby action mounts, was fitted to the gun in 1990 by Karl Jaeger in Switzerland and, interestingly, this rifle has not been fired since that target was shot over 20 years ago. There were only about 168 of these magnum Mauser .416's
turned out by Rigby prior to WWII and they are very scarce today in this condition with an excellent bore. This is a simply magnificent example of the single most highly sought after pre-war bolt-action big game rifle in the world.
