Sale pending John Rigby sidelock rising bite ejector 450 NE
Description: Sale pending #16705 John Rigby sidelock rising bite ejector 450 NE Entered in the maker’s ledger on March 10, 1900 for Captain WW Chitty, Officer of the 1st Uganda rifle regiment, a best top lever vertical bolt, non-ejector rifle, with 28" barrels in .450. The now 26" barrels with fitted lump have superb bores and chambers. The rifle shoots Hornady 480gr DGX extremely well. It went thru some work in London in 1973 including shortening of the barrels to 26", reblacking, retrofitting of South Gate ejectors, case color hardening and a reproof in the original caliber. If Rigby has done the work, there is no reference of it in the ledger. Since that event, the rifle looks like it has hardly been to the range or to the hunting field. Cosmetically in 95% plus condition, mechanically 99%. The weight of the rifle is 10 Lbs. 9 Oz. The LOP is 14 1/2". It is one of the few nitro rising bite express rifles made between 1896 and 1909. SOLD Rifle Caliber: .450 Nitro Express Manufacturer: John Rigby Model: Sidelock rising bite ejector in 450 NE Serial Number: 16705 Barrel Length: 26 Condition: Great condition Bore Condition: Superb bores and chambers LOP: 14 1/2 Weight: 10 Lbs 9 oz. Manufacture Date: 1900 |
