CUSTOM U.S.
MODEL 1922
SPRINGFIELD .22 LR, SPORTER, BUILT BY FAMOUS GUNSMITH.
Description: SALE PENDING. $1,995.00 or best offer plus actual shipping. This is a listing for a very special and unique, one of a kind CUSTOM U.S. MODEL 1922 MII-B SPRINGFIELD .22 LONG RIFLE, SPORTER, BUILT BY FAMOUS GUNSMITH! The custom gunsmith was Jim Lewis, a well known riflemaker who had a shop in Butte, Montana. Jim, built many very expensive custom rifles for over 50 years. He made barrels, stocks and other parts as needed for his many clients. He was a master machinist by training and a gunmaker by trade. Jim passed away in 2009. I purchased this fine rifle from Northwest Pony Express, in 2016. They advertised this very rifle in GunsInternational, stating that it was the " personal gun of Idaho/Montana custom gun smith, Jim Lewis" and I still have the original listing and my bill of sale for my purchase of the rifle. The rifle action is the Model 1922 Springfield Armory, MII B, which was upgraded by the Armory after 1934 to the M2 configuration including the M2 bolt, M2 magazine and other parts. The Serial No. is: 14594 B. The bolt has the last digits (94B) lightly scribed on the bolt, just too light for a photo. This indicates that the bolt is properly headspaced. The barrel is marked "SA 9-27 (Sept. 1927) and is the post-1925 improved barrel with the match chamber. The serial number is 14594 B. Mr. Lewis chose wisely, as, this barrel is in excellent condition: bore is bright with strong grooves and is extremely accurate. I can regulary shoot 3 rounds into virtually one tiny hole at 50 ft. from the bench, using just SK Standard Plus ammunition, which is not match ammo! Since this rifle was Jim Lewis's personal rifle, the laminated wood stock was not as well finished as it would have been if it was made for a customer, but the inletting is outstanding-see photos. Make no mistake, this is a very high quality custom rifle with many upscale feautures: ebony wood forend cap, heavy fully checkered steel buttplate (with widow's peak) and matching grip cap, Buehler low scope safety, hand made steel scope mounting bases, altered bolt for low scope use and my gunsmith told me that this stock is glass bedded and the rifle has a Timney adjustible trigger, which I just tested at 2 lbs- light and crisp! Please note that this M2 magazine capacity is just 4 cartridges and not 5, probably due to a tight spring, but, the rifle feeds, chambers, extracts and ejects correctly. This rifle is a real man's rifle and looks and handles like a big game rifle: approx. 9 lbs, 22" barrel, 14" LOP (length of pull). The rifle has scope mounts with 1" rings, but, no scope. All sales and all shipping to the lower 47 States (no sales to Calif.) Please note that the 3 calendar day inspection and return is not for any disassembly or firing of the gun. Also note that if the buyer returns the gun to the seller for any reason, the gun must be shipped back to the seller by the same exact shipping service. The buyer must give the seller at least 3 calendar days advance notice of their intention to return the gun. The buyer should email all questions to the seller before they purchase the gun. After the buyer agrees to buy the gun, the seller will email the buyer all the necessary details needed to complete the purchase. THE BUYER SHOULD TELL THEIR FFL TRANSFER AGENT THAT THE SELLER IS A PRIVATE SELLER WHO USES HIS GUN CLUB TO PROCESS AND SHIP ALL FIREARMS.. No C&R on this rifle. Thank you for looking. SALE PENDING.
