Model 80 is a pre–World War II bolt-action .22 rimfire rifle introduced in 1935 and designed as a simple, reliable takedown rifle that could be easily assembled or disassembled. It featured a straight-comb walnut stock with a pistol-grip wrist, and early examples included a pair of finger grooves cut into the fore-end—an element Marlin discontinued in 1937. The rifle, which carried a 24-inch barrel, was equipped with a spring-leaf elevator rear sight and a blade front sight. It typically used a steel trigger guard, although a limited number made in 1939 used experimental Tenite plastic guards. Production of the original Model 80 ran from 1935 to 1939. During this period, Marlin also offered the Model 80E, a factory variation equipped with upgraded sights. In 1940, the Model 80 was replaced by the Model 80B, which featured improved wood, a Tenite trigger guard, and a radial safety catch. The Model 80BE was the companion peep-sight version for that year. Marlin continued the line with several post-war variants: the Model 80C, which featured a widened semi-beavertail fore-end and later adopted a Monte Carlo stock in 1957; the Model 80DL, a deluxe version produced from the early 1940s into the 1960s with enhanced sights and trim; and the Model 80G, a Glenfield-marked economy model manufactured in 1965 using a hardwood stock and simplified features. Together, these rifles represent the full family of the Model 80, all of which are on the same basic Marlin bolt-action design introduced in 1935. Contents: This example will ship with one magazine!
