This is an exciting piece of Cold War history that can also be flat-out fun to shoot. The M1969 was developed by Romania in response to the 1960‚s Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. In an all-out-effort to oppose Soviet aggression, the Romanian government encouraged pushed all its adult citizens to join the Patriotic Guards, which was essentially a \"people’s militia\", or home guard. At one point, the Patriotic Guard had around 700,000 participants, both men and women. The Romanian government realized it had a shortage of proper rimfire training rifles for this large number of potential combatants, and subsequently developed the M1969. Its size, heft and action matched the WW2-era weapons available in the Romanian arsenal, and became a favorite trainer often known for its surprising accuracy. This particular rifle was made in 1971, and is in very good (95%) overall condition, with few flaws on either the wood or metal surfaces. The bore is bright, rifling is crisp, and the unique three-leave rear sight (25, 50 and 100 meters) is fully operational. The 5-round detachable magazine is not original, and it does not include an stock-stored cleaning kit.
