Description: 1905 ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL US M1903 .30-06 SPRG WWI & II Great War RIA 12 C&R Infantry Rifle Made in 1905 In ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS Here we present a U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 Rifle, manufactured circa 1905 at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. M1903s from Rock Island are a bit harder to find as they made far fewer than Springfield Armory. This was the RIA’s only new production firearm in its history, though they have made many other materiel since they were established in 1862. They also refurbished many already produced military firearms. There were two distinct periods of M1903 manufacture on the island: from 1904-1913, ceasing just prior to World War I then resuming with the United State’s entrance into the conflict, from 1917-1919. This is a low serial number, made well-prior to the war, used during the war, then refurbished for continued use during World War II, even receiving a new barrel. The overall condition is fine. Robust action. The bore is bright and nicely rifled. Excellent stock, remains solid and contains less than expected handling. Legible markings. “SA/9-42” dated barrel.
